Heading for Las Vegas to commentate on top darts just does my head in. Who’d have thought back in the first days of televised darts at the Indoor League at the Leeds Irish Centre in 1973 that we’d take the game this far? For Tetley’s bitter and jumbo sausage rolls read Pina Coladas and Po’Boy sarnies. We’ve gone from the world of bingo and Bernard Manning to the stomping ground of Elvis, Sinatra and Cher. Phil Taylor told me that the biggest thrill in walking out for the final of the first Desert Classic in 2002 was passing the pictures of the greats who have trod the boards at the MGM Grand: Springsteen, Johnny Cash and ZZ Top.
