We start on a very, very serious note. What are the moral considerations of darts players “giving it lip” to each other during a vital match?
There is no doubt that Peter Manley said something to Adrian Lewis on the moment of release. This led to Lewis remonstrating with the ref Russ Bray and then leaving the stage.
Manley did not deny that he had said something at this point in the match but insisted that Adrian had “talked” during some of his throws. I know full well that verbals have always been part of the game since the Bristow, Evans and Wilson days, but surely a verbal timed to put off the opponent, should be punished severely.
There will no doubt be a full scale inquiry.
Taylor was majestic…..saying to me on his way out: “I’m in the mood to take Painter and then Manley to the cleaners.” He has to get past Hawaii 501 first but there is no doubt Phil is on a 40 foot wave!
Quarter-final day saw Sid doing just the one match but lots of interviews for other shows. I needed to rest the vocal chords a bit before the battering they will take before the semis and the final.
I was ‘live’ on Sky’s Soccer AM All Sports Show and answered several probing questions from the lovely Helen Chamberlain.
With so many Batmen and dodgy cowboys around at The Circus, I was a bit lax on stiletto watch but did see two lasses dressed as Manchester United Red Devils.
Still hoping for some white stiletto’s before the tournament finishes on Monday! Come to think of it, I hope they’ve got my size!
My midnight snack to help me into the New Year, will be several slices of Christmas cake – baked by my daughter Emma. I actually snaffled a quarter of the cake, as everyone else was around the Christmas tree singing carols!
Happy New Year from Sid……….see ya in 2006!
