The world of darts breaks new ground this weekend and Team Unicorn will be chasing the top prize at the Stan James Players Championship in Gibraltar. Adrian Lewis will be hoping to celebrate his 21st birthday in style. ‘Jackpot’ is one of the favourites to win the event and add another £5,000 to his growing prize pot! The event takes the number of Players Championships to nine, as the PDC continues to spread the darts gospel. There is a field of over 100 and will include players from Spain and Gibraltar. Lewis is seeded No.13 for the tournament, which takes place on ‘The Rock’ this Saturday. Unicorn’s World No.1 Colin Lloyd heads the field but there will be no Phil Taylor. ‘The Power’ has just set out on a two-week cruise to celebrate his 13th World Title….but rumour has it, that Taylor has taken a practice board on the ship! Team Unicorn’s Kevin Painter, James Wade, Bob Anderson and Peter Manley are also on the title trail in Gibraltar. Painter will be looking to build on his impressive victory over Lloyd, to win the UK Open North East Regional in Newcastle a fortnight ago. Manley could face Wolverhampton’s Wayne Jones in a repeat of this year’s World Championship semi-final, which ‘One Dart’ won 6 sets to nil. Wade faces a tough draw and could come up against Chris Mason, while Anderson faces the prospect of having to beat ‘Diamond’ Dave Askew to progress. There will be first news of the results on the Unicorn website on Saturday night. By Stuart Pyke
