13-times World Champion Phil Taylor will clash head on with his BDO counterpart Jelle Klassen for the first time, at the International Darts League in Holland. Unicorn’s PDC record-breaker will go head-to-head with the Dutch superstar in the second group phase at the IDL. It is a mouth-watering prospect, with the undisputed Master of Darts trying to put the Young Pretender in his place. Klassen’s 6-4 defeat to Martin Adams on Monday night means he finishes as runner-up in his group. He will also do battle for the first time with Unicorn’s PDC World No.1 Colin Lloyd in the second stage of the tournament, which has a prize of 30,000 Euros for the eventual winner on Sunday. Klassen of course, went from obscurity to darting immortality – when he beat the legend that is Raymond Van Barneveld – to win the BDO World Crown this year. He met Taylor for the first time when the Premier League went to Doncaster last month. The two World Champions talked and posed for photographs…….now it’s time for Taylor to do his talking on the oche. When probed by Sky Sports Dave Clark about a possible switch to the PDC, Klassen replied: “Never say never!”…….well, now he gets his chance against the best player in the history of the sport! The final opponent for Taylor and Lloyd in the 2nd group stage is Shaun Greatbatch, who won through after a 6-5 victory over Tony O’Shea in the last match of Monday night. The PDC ‘Five’ completed a clean sweep, after Ronnie Baxter made it through – thanks to his 6-4 victory over Niels De Ruiter. He now faces the prospect of a showdown against Barney and Scholten, for a place in the quarter-finals. 2nd Group Stage: Group I Raymond Van Barneveld Roland Scholten Ronnie Baxter Paul Hogan Group J Phil Taylor Colin Lloyd Shaun Greatbatch Jelle Klassen Group K Gary Anderson Gary Robson Simon Whitlock Ted Hankey Group L Martin Adams Darryl Fitton Michael Van Gerwen Tony O’Shea Keep in touch with the Unicorn website for news and results as the IDL continues.
