Colin Lloyd produced a battling display to win his winner-takes-all clash against Shaun Greatbatch – and book a place in the quarter-finals of the International Darts League….but Phil Taylor suffered a rare defeat at the hands of Dutch youngster Jelle Klaasen. ‘Jaws’ bit hard…..beating Greatbatch 7-5, to book a quarter-final place against former BDO World Champion Ted Hankey. But Taylor – who had already done enough to progress – will be privately fuming, after losing out to Klaasen in the first head-to-head between the PDC and BDO World Champions. ‘The Power’ was playing for bragging rights and pride – but lost 7-6, despite being 5-3 in front. There is no doubt it will hurt Unicorn’s 13-times World Champion – but expect him to take it out on Australian Simon Whitlock in Friday’s quarter-finals. It seems that Taylor has been far from his best so far in the IDL, so expect him to produce his very best at the business end of the tournament. He averaged just 93 against Klaasen. It was a dramatic finish. Taylor missed four darts to win the match and Klaasen blew six darts, before finally nailing double 4 to topple ‘The Power’. Beware a wounded Philip Taylor! But all credit to Unicorn’s World No.1. Lloyd who was under enormous pressure against Greatbatch….he established a 4-1 lead, before being pegged back….but held his nerve to reach the last eight, nailing double ten to take the match. Elsewhere, on a dramatic night in Holland, Raymond Van Barneveld found a 116 finish to see off Paul Hogan 7-5…..he plays Dutch teenager Michael Van Gerwen in what should be a classic quarter-final. And Roland Scholten boosted the PDC ranks in the quarter-finals with a nail-biting victory over Ronnie Baxter…..but ‘The Rocket’ only has himself to blame. Scholten won 7-6 - only after Baxter missed half-a-dozen darts to go through. Teenage star Van Gerwen again produced the performance of the night. He beat Tony O’Shea 7-3 with an unbelievable display of scoring. The Dutch ace averaged 106 after starting the match with a 160 check-out….and he reached the last eight – edging out Darryl Fitton by just the one leg on count back.
