The Unicorn star was forced to dig deep, coming from behind to edge out his great friend 9 sets to 8….and Lloyd is now guaranteed at least 15,000 euros. But it is the big prize he wants now – in Sunday’s final against Raymond Van Barneveld.

Barney won another high quality match – 9 sets to 7 against Australian Simon Whitlock. He came from 3 sets down to reach the all PDC Final in Nijmegen.

Lloyd produced a remarkable comeback in a high-scoring semi-final against ‘The Tripod’. He was 8-6 down, then reeled off the last three sets to clinch victory. In the 16th set, Scholten missed one dart to win. Needing 138, the Dutchman hit two treble 20s but his shot at double nine hit the wire.

Lloyd was a relieved man at the end: “Roland is a very good friend and for long periods, he was better than me. It was a case of hanging on in there! It was a very tough match, which has taken a lot out of me but I will be up for it on Sunday night against Barney – don’t you worry about that!”

‘Jaws’ went to sleep in the middle of the match. Scholten won eight consecutive legs to take four sets on the spin and build up a 5-2 lead……but the Team Unicorn man displayed terrific battling qualities. After missing three darts to win it in the final set, he finally nailed double three to book his place in Sunday’s final.

It was a high-scoring affair, with Lloyd hitting 15 180s to Scholten’s 11…..but after a real struggle to qualify in the Premier League over the last few weeks, the confidence is coming back for Lloyd.

He was easily beaten twice by Barney in the Premier League group stage – but this is different and Lloyd is hoping the long format will suit him. The final is the best of 25 sets (3 legs per set).

The winner will take home 30,000 euros but to be crowned International Darts League champion at the first attempt, is what it’s all about for the PDC World No.1.
