It’s time to celebrate for two of Team Unicorn’s newest stars. American darts ace Ray Carver and top women’s player Laura Tye are one step closer to achieving their goals. The 18-year-old from Chesterfield, who is the first ladies darts star to sign up with Unicorn, has won her regional Gold Cup event in the Midlands. It means she claims a place in the Gold Cup Final at Lakeside in July…..victory there would clinch a spot in January’s World Championships. The Gold Cup starts on July 15 at Frimley Green, with 64 of the top ladies players in the country battling for one of the biggest prizes in the sport. Laura, who won last year’s World Youth Masters title, was recommended to Unicorn by the great John Lowe. In October, she will be playing in the main World Masters event at Bridlington. Meanwhile Team Unicorn’s American star Ray Carver has clinched an automatic place in next month’s Las Vegas Desert Classic. Carver has finished second in the American rankings behind Darin Young….but it is enough to secure a 1st round spot at the Mandalay Bay Hotel. It is just reward for Carver, who has won three major titles in the USA over the last 12 months – the Louisiana Classic, New York/New Jersey Open and the Syracuse Open. It will be a great incentive to the left-hander, because the American player who performs best in Las Vegas, will be guaranteed a wild card to the 2007 Ladbrokes.com World Championships…..remember at this year’s tournament, Carver made a big impression – beating World No.3 Ronnie Baxter in the first round. This weekend, Carver will be hoping to make a name for himself at the World Series of Darts. In the 1st round, he goes head-to-head with Unicorn colleague Peter Manley, confident of causing another big upset. You will be able to follow the World Series of Darts from Connecticut right here on the Unicorn website….watch out for an in-depth preview coming soon. BY STUART PYKE
