Peter Manley has won a place in the prestigious World Darts Trophy later this year. The Team Unicorn ace has been handed the final place reserved for PDC stars at the event to be held in Utrecht, Holland from September 2-10. It is Manley’s reward for just holding onto 4th spot in the PDC World rankings after the Las Vegas Desert Classic. Unicorn’s Phil Taylor and Colin Lloyd will also play in the tournament, as well as Raymond Van Barneveld and Ronnie Baxter. Manley edged out Wayne Mardle for the final PDC place. They will all battle it out with the top players from the BDO….at the last ‘mixed’ tournament, the PDC dominated the International Darts League in May, with Barney beating Lloyd in the final. Sadly, the popular Bob Anderson Classic has been cancelled. The tournament, run by Unicorn’s former World Champion, was due to take place in Lancashire in October. But after four successful years, Anderson has been forced to scrap the event after a problem with the organisers. He said: “It is hugely disappointing that we have had to reach this conclusion. I have tried, without success, to keep the competition on the books.” The 2005 Bob Anderson classic was won by Unicorn’s World No.1 Colin Lloyd. Unicorn’s Australian ace Barry Jouannet remains in 5th place in the latest Darts Federation of Australia rankings. ‘China’ is hoping to return to the Circus Tavern in December for a 3rd crack at the World Championships. Jouannet has just missed out on another title…..he was beaten in the final of the latest Australian Grand Prix Event in South Australia…..losing 8 legs to 3 to Anthony Fleet in the final of the Golden Dart in Adelaide.
