Wes Newton and Robbie Green are the latest top names to join the top darting brand. Newton – the world No.21 – will become a Unicorn Contender, while Green joins Team Unicorn Global, which was announced today along with the exciting new 2006/2007 Unicorn product range. It is perfect timing for Newton, as he prepares for his first ever appearance at his hometown tournament. The 28-year-old from Fleetwood will finally make his debut at the World Matchplay – against fellow Unicorn star John Part. It will be the match of the opening night at The Winter Gardens. “To join the biggest brand name in darts is special for me,” Newton said. “It will be a great feeling to pull on the Unicorn shirt in Blackpool. A couple of years ago, I just missed out – losing to Mark Walsh in the final qualifier….and last year, the top 28 in the world get there by right….I was no.29 by just a point, so it is going to be a great night!” It will be a repeat of their Las Vegas Desert Classic semi-final, which the Canadian won 4-2. Newton has reached the semi-finals of the last two Desert Classics. In 2005, he was eventually beaten by Phil Taylor. He certainly has the pedigree and the talent to win tournaments and climb rapidly into the top 10 in the world. Newton was approached at the Mandalay Bay just two weeks ago by Unicorn Managing Director Edward Lowy, who said: “Wes has the right attitude and image for Team Unicorn. He is a talented player with a bright future ahead of him.” Green is a real darting personality, who has just joined the PDC on a full-time basis. The 32-year-old from Wallasey goes by the nickname ‘Kong’ – which is tattooed on the back of his neck! He has already played in the World Matchplay and displayed his talent for all to see just last month at the UK Open in Bolton. Green reached the quarter-finals at The Reebok – beating Jamie Harvey, Chris Mason, Mark Walsh and Terry Jenkins, before losing to Irish veteran John Magowan. “To be involved with Unicorn is every darts player’s dream and I am determined to show them and the darting public what I am capable of over the next few years,” Green said. Newton and Green are just the latest additions to be biggest darts team in the world….and more are expected to follow in the not too distant future! Full details of the new signings and the new product range will be revealed exclusively on this website shortly. BY STUART PYKE
