Phil Taylor has sent out a warning to his rivals after winning the Bobby Bourn Memorial Trophy in Blackpool for a fourth consecutive year. ‘The Power’ beat Roland Scholten 3 sets to 1 in the final as the Unicorn ace proved he is in the groove to reclaim his World Matchplay crown. “It was a tough day playing in that heat but it is a good sign and it will give me a heap of confidence going into the Matchplay,” he said. Taylor was forced to come from behind in the final, after losing the opening set to Scholten against the throw. Unicorn star Kevin Painter so nearly created a little slice of history in his last 16 clash with Andy Jenkins. He just missed double 12 for a magical 9-darter. If he’d nailed it, he would have won the match…..but eventually lost out 3-2. Colin Lloyd and Adrian Lewis both reached the quarter-finals, while Unicorn contender James Wade hit four 100+ finishes in claiming the scalp of Raymond Van Barneveld in the 4th round of the competition. That will surely set him up nicely for the Blackpool week. Colin Osborne again showed just why many are tipping him for big things over the next couple of years, by reaching the semi-finals. John Part was looking good but was edged out 3-2 by Colin Lloyd in the last 16….but it seems Taylor is the man they’ll all have to beat at The Winter Gardens.
