James Wade has received scant reward for his brilliant display at The World Matchplay Championships. He’s gone up just two places to No.17 in the latest world rankings. Wade won 24 points for reaching the final in Blackpool but there is still a big gap to make up, as he chases a place in the world’s top 10…..Unicorn stablemate Kevin Painter currently occupies 10th spot on 405 points, with Wade now on 327. But the 23-year-old looks in good shape for 2007, when the PDC switches to an Order of Merit. The £15,000 he won at The Winter Gardens takes him up to 12th in the money list. Colin Lloyd hangs onto the World No.1 spot, despite his shock 1st Round exit at the hands of Steve Maish in Blackpool. Phil Taylor remains at No.2…..because the way the current ranking system works, his net points gain from Blackpool was zero! Players defend points they won at tournaments on a two-year cycle. In 2004, Taylor won both the Bobby Bourn Memorial Trophy and the World Matchplay. Of course, he did exactly the same in 2006, so effectively all he has done is successfully defend his points from 2004. In the World Rankings, Dennis Priestley is up to No.6 and Roland Scholten has shot back up to No.7, while Adrian Lewis has improved again to 11th. Andy Hamilton has shot into the world’s top 32 for the first time after impressing so much in Blackpool. He is at No.29 Latest World Rankings (as of 31st July) UNICORN stars in capitals 1 – COLIN LLOYD - 578 2 – PHIL TAYLOR - 541 3 – Ronnie Baxter – 467 4 – PETER MANLEY – 430 5 – Wayne Mardle – 429 6 – Dennis Priestley – 427 7 – Roland Scholten – 420 8 – Andy Jenkins – 410 9 – Terry Jenkins – 406 10 – KEVIN PAINTER – 405 11 – ADRIAN LEWIS – 399 12 – Denis Ovens – 396 13 – Mark Dudbridge – 391 14 – Chris Mason – 387 15 – Mark Walsh – 381 16 – JOHN PART – 339 17 – JAMES WADE – 327 Selected others: 20 – WES NEWTON 24 – BOB ANDERSON 29 – Andy Hamilton In the latest Order of Merit, ‘The Power’ is guaranteed to be World No.1 again come January 2007, while Colin Lloyd, Peter Manley, John Part and Adrian Lewis will all be in the top 10.
