Andrew Hamilton has celebrated his new deal with Unicorn in style, by winning two tournaments in two days! He hammered out a message at the weekend by winning both the Midlands Masters and the Lichfield Open. The Midlands Masters event has been played over a few months and Hamilton topped the group – winning all seven of his matches and he wasn’t to be stopped come finals day in Coventry. He disposed of Dave Honey 2 sets to 1…..then beat fellow Unicorn Contender Adrian Lewis 3-1, before winning the final with ease 4-1 against David Platt. Hamilton won £1,800 for that triumph and pocketed another £500 by winning the Lichfield Open – beating Tony Randall in the final. It has been a rollercoaster ride for Hamilton since he signed his sponsorship deal with Unicorn and after his exploits at the World Matchplay in Blackpool. He is now getting noticed wherever he goes. “It is a great at the moment,” he said. “Only a few days ago, I had to take some bags of rubbish to the tip and when I got there, everyone was asking for my autograph! But I am determined to keep my feet firmly on the ground. When I come home, I am just plain old Andy and that’s the way I want it to stay. When I play darts, it is another world and I am in the zone.” Hamilton is now waiting for his Unicorn signature darts, which are currently being manufactured….and is already planning for a big month in September, when he will be chasing the Irish Open Classic title and more importantly he will be chasing one of those four qualifying spots for the SkyBet World Grand Prix in Dublin. Keep in touch with the Unicorn website over the next few days for Andy Hamilton’s profile, when we will find out how it all started for ‘The Hammer’. BY STUART PYKE
