What the Light & Hope Campaign is all about:
The ‘Lord Mayor’s Light and Hope Schizophrenia Appeal Committee’ was established in 2003 and since then, Wollongong has been a leader in raising awareness about issues surrounding mental health.
Back in 2003, the committee formed to increase awareness of schizophrenia in the community and raise funds for the purchase of the first Beta Imaging machine in the southern hemisphere.

This high tech camera was commissioned and now operates at the University of Wollongong, providing state of the art high resolution images to better understand brain chemistry, and assist in the development of better treatments for schizophrenia.

Following the success of this initial project, the Light and Hope committee reformed and restructured their awareness campaign, turning their attention to services for people recovering from mental illness.
