The big question from the World Darts Trophy in Holland…..can Colin Lloyd finally break his jinx against fellow Unicorn star Phil Taylor? Time after time, Lloyd has failed to produce anything like his best against ‘The Power’ in major tournaments….in fact he still hasn’t beaten Taylor in a really big one! Well, he is about to get another chance to beat his nemesis in Thursday’s quarter-final in Utrecht over the best of nine sets. “I am playing really well,” said Lloyd. “If I go up there and throw like I did against Gary Anderson, then I have a chance. I am focused and I am ready.” Lloyd was brilliant in disposing of BDO World No.1 Anderson – just missing a 9 dart finish, nailing a 170 check-out and producing a high standard throughout. Taylor though, missed a lot of doubles in his 2nd Round match against John Walton – but still averaged nearly 100 in winning 4 sets to 1. Taylor has beaten Lloyd five times in the Premier League…the other match was drawn…he thrashed ‘Jaws’ in last year’s final of the World Grand Prix and beat him in this year’s UK Open. Ronnie Baxter kept the PDC flag flying high with a whitewash against No.5 seed Martin Atkins. ‘The Rocket’ dropped only three legs in the match – winning 4-0. In Wednesday’s other 2nd round clashes, Mervyn King beat Darryl Fitton 4-1 and Martin Adams edged out Tony O’Shea in a last set tie-breaker. But all eyes on are Lloyd against Taylor for a place in the semi-finals and there will be an in-depth report right here on the Unicorn website, after their showdown on Thursday night. World Darts Trophy Quarter-Finals: Thursday: Michael Van Gerwen v Mervyn King Colin Lloyd v Phil Taylor Friday: Martin Adams v Niels de Ruiter Ronnie Baxter v Mike Veitch BY STUART PYKE
