Can anyone stop Phil Taylor winning the World Darts Trophy? Well, only one man now stands between ‘The Power’ and his title in Holland. Taylor will face BDO England captain Martin Adams in Sunday night’s final of the World Darts Trophy for a winner’s cheque of 45,000 euros. The Unicorn star smashed record after record in thrashing Ronnie Baxter in a one-sided semi-final by 6 sets to nil, while Adams ended the dream of Dutch teenager Michael Van Gerwen – winning 6 sets to 4. Taylor averaged an amazing 106.77 – the highest in the history of the tournament – as he whitewashed ‘The Rocket’ with a display of immense power and skill. He started with 147 and 167 check-outs in the first set and Baxter must have known what was coming. He followed that up with two 11-dart legs…..and Baxter won only five legs in the entire match. Taylor has just got better and better as the week in Utrecht has gone on….but how many times have we said that about ‘The Power’ over the years! After disposing of Raymond Van Barneveld, Simon Whitlock and Mervyn King, Michael Van Gerwen ran out of steam against Adams, despite coming from two sets down. The young Dutch star brought the house down with a 170 finish and came so close to a 9-darter….just missing the final double 12 – like Colin Lloyd earlier in the week. Taylor will start the final as a big favourite and if he plays anything like, he will surely be adding yet another title to his long list of achievements. If ‘The Power’ has his way, ‘Wolfie’ will be in sheep’s clothing by the end of the final on Sunday night! BY STUART PYKE
