Simply the best ever….and Phil Taylor proved it yet again to win the World Darts Trophy and a cheque for 45,000 euros. Taylor swept aside the challenge of Martin Adams – thrashing ‘Wolfie’ 7 sets to 2 in a one-sided final. It was another awesome display of top tungsten from the Team Unicorn star, who never looked in any trouble against the BDO England captain. ‘The Power’ averaged 102.21 and controlled the final from the first dart. He breezed through the first set and although Adams took the second, you always got the feeling that Taylor was in cruise control. The big moment in the final came in the 4th set…..it went to a deciding leg and Taylor left ‘Wolfie’ howling with a brilliant 105 check-out to take a 3 sets to 1 lead. He started the 5th set with a 124 finish and there was no coming back for Adams. Taylor was averaging between 101 and 102 throughout the final. Adams took the 6th set before the break, before Taylor came out firing to reel off three consecutive sets and take the coveted crown. All week, Taylor was at the very top of his game and it is another shot across the bows for the critics who only two months ago, were starting to write him off. He had been beaten by Raymond Van Barneveld at the UK Open and Las Vegas Desert Classic…..defeats like that seem to spur Taylor on and make him even more determined to succeed. His brilliant victory in Blackpool at the end of July to reclaim the World Matchplay title served as a warning. This victory will be seen as another triumph for the PDC – especially after Barney’s victory in the final of the International Darts League over Colin Lloyd, earlier this year. But this is a triumph for Taylor, who proved only a foolish man would write off ‘The Power’.
