American ace Ray Carver is celebrating after winning the prestigious Windy City Open title in Chicago at the weekend. The left-hander – who only signed with Team Unicorn a few months ago – was in scintillating form, whitewashing fellow American Darin Young 6-0 in the final. He collects $1,200 and five world ranking points, with it being a category two tournament. Carver looked unbeatable all weekend and it is the perfect way for him to warm-up as he heads to South Wales this weekend. ‘Razor’ is flying over to Britain to play in the massive weekend of darts at Newport. He is bidding to qualify for the World Grand Prix in Dublin and will be having a crack at both the Players Championship tournament and UK Open Welsh Regional event. Carver is also desperate to hit top form, because he hasn’t yet qualified for the World Championships at the Circus Tavern and will be back over to Britain in early December to chase one of 16 prized spots at the PDPA qualifiers in Birmingham. Some of the top PDC stars were in Chicago chasing precious world ranking points, as the race hots up for places in the top six by the end of October, which will guarantee a spot in the 2007 Premier League. Unicorn’s John Part reached the quarter-finals, while Denis Ovens and Terry Jenkins were losing semi-finalists….Andy Jenkins was knocked out in the last 16 and Roland Scholten suffered defeat at the last 32 stage. But the Chicago weekend belonged to Carver…..his next target to win one of those four places at the SkyBet World Grand Prix. BY STUART PYKE
