Team Unicorn stars Phil Taylor and Colin Lloyd will lead England’s bid to be crowned ‘European Champions’ at the brand new Masters of Darts tournament in Holland next year. The event has been revamped and it will see the best the Dutch have to offer against a star line-up from England. Taylor and Lloyd will spearhead the English challenge, along with ‘Hawaii 501’ Wayne Mardle and BDO star Mervyn King. The fifth English player will be announced nearer the showdown, which will take place in Holland next February. The prize fund is a massive 185,000 euros. The Dutch team is headed by Raymond Van Barneveld and is a real mixture of youth and experience. Barney will be joined by Roland Scholten, Michael Van Gerwen, Jelle Klaasen and Vincent van der Voort. The event is guaranteed to have the darts world buzzing, as ten top tungsten throwers go head-to-head for more than just money…..national pride will be at stake. It will all happen from February 10-17 in Hengelo in Holland. All the players will compete in a round-robin format from Saturday to Wednesday. There will be no play on the Thursday because the likes of Taylor, Lloyd, Barney and Scholten will be flying back to the UK to compete in the Holsten Premier League. The top two players from each country will then go head-to-head in Friday’s semi-finals, with the top placed Englishman facing the second ranked Dutchman and vice versa. The final will be for a winner’s cheque of 50,000 euros.
