German star Michael Rosenauer has clinched his second WDF title of 2006 – winning the Malta Open…..but there was also huge disappointment for Rosi, who failed in his bid to reach the Ladbrokes.com World Championships. The Unicorn Global star beat Malta’s Godfrey Abela by 2 sets to nil to take the title, after earlier disposing of Tony Eccles in the semi-finals…The German winning 2 sets to 1. The victory also means Rosenauer is now Germany’s new No.1 and it takes him to 20th in the latest WDF rankings. That is the highest position ever achieved by a German darts star. Earlier in the year, he won the world ranking tournament in Dortmund….it has been a great 2006 for Rosenauer, who is still contemplating a permanent switch to the PDC next year, to become part of the new PDC 9-event German Tour. His mind would have been made up for him, if he’d managed to win the German qualifying event for the Circus Tavern. But he failed to make it through the tough qualifiers on Saturday. The winner was Anton Pein, who will become the first Austrian to play at the Circus. Rosenuaer was beaten 6 legs to 4 by Pein at the last 16 stage. The tournament coincided with Germany’s ‘Meet The Power II’ and was organised by Unicorn’s Gordon Shumway. Taylor and fellow Unicorn star Colin Lloyd were the stars of the weekend, playing a series of exhibitions and representing the Unicorn brand at the event. Former World Champion Eric Bristow was also at the tournament. The Unicorn pair played each other, with Taylor winning by 3 legs to1….and ‘The Power’ then took on Alex Kohler – one of the best soft tip players in Germany….but Kohler and the darts machine were no match for Taylor, who won the match 5-0!
