Canada’s double World Champion John Part has pledged his future to Team Unicorn by signing a new four-year deal. It is a major boost for Part, as he plots his rise back to the top of the world rankings. He said: “I am looking forward to the World Championships with great zeal and cementing a new deal with Unicorn only enhances my desire for success. As a member of the finest darts team in the world, I look forward to building the Unicorn legend ever higher.” The Canadian looks assured of a place in the World’s top 10 in January, when the PDC brings in the new Order of Merit system. He is currently in 10th spot in the provisional list and a good display at the Circus Tavern could take him back into the top five in the world. Part of course, has already enjoyed one ‘Major’ tournament win this year, with victory over Raymond Van Barneveld to claim the Las Vegas Desert Classic crown but it is the big one at Purfleet, that is focusing all his energies at the moment. Who will ever forget his epic 7 sets to 6 victory over Phil Taylor to win the 2003 World Championships and Part believes he can win it again. “I’m working on my fitness,” he revealed, “walking at least three miles a day. I believe feeling strong is one of the keys to success. Also I am practicing hard, with the emphasis on finishing.” Part added: “My matches with Chris Mason and Wayne Mardle from last year’s World Championships, have aired recently on TV here in Canada. I have to say that watching those two matches has really got me fired up to play some of the best darts that I’ve ever thrown.” “I would like to make 2007 a year to remember, as I climb back up to the top. A third World Championship is certainly there for me to take and I will attack with no mercy.” It would be an amazing achievement but Part certainly has the ability and he is one player the others will be hoping to avoid in the Circus Tavern draw. Unicorn Managing Director Edward Lowy is not surprisingly delighted to secure Part’s services through until at least 2010. He said: “An in-form John Part is a sight to behold on the oche, a sight not relished by any of his fellow top professionals! We have thoroughly enjoyed working with John on the PDC circuit and in exhibitions around the world.” Mr Lowy added: “He is a true gentleman, a tremendously hard worker of undoubted ability, with a great sense of humour to boot. He is also a great travelling companion – but be warned when dining with him, as boy does he like his chillis!” For his part, the Canadian will be hoping to run very hot, come the Circus Tavern on December 18!
