Peter Manley continued his impressive start at the Masters of Darts tournament in Holland with another deciding set victory to make it two wins out of two! The Unicorn star, who beat Raymond Van Barneveld on the opening night in Hengelo, was again on top form – coming from behind to beat Vincent van der Voort 3 sets to 2.
Manley averaged an impressive 95 and looks to be in a good position to qualify for Saturday’s semi-finals. Remember, the top two Dutch stars and English players from the group stages go through to the last four.
Phil Taylor claimed his first win. A stylish victory over Roland Scholten by 3 sets to 1. ‘The Power’ was brilliant early on, as he produced 118, 154 and 143 finishes, to win the first set. He took the first six legs of the match and was averaging over 110. Scholten found some form to take the third set and actually missed two darts at double top to take it into a decider, before Taylor sealed the win. His average of 103.5 was the best of the tournament so far.
Taylor meets Barney on Monday night – their first clash since that epic World Championship Final.
Team Unicorn’s Colin Lloyd suffered his first defeat – losing 3 sets to 2 against former BDO World Champion Jelle Klaasen. Lloyd was fuming after the match. He threw away a two set lead and despite hitting 11 180s, he couldn’t finish Klaasen off.
And Raymond Van Barneveld is now struggling to reach the semi-finals, after he suffered a second consecutive 3-2 defeat. Barney lost to PDC new boy Mervyn King in a final set tie-break. He actually missed darts to win the match in regulation in the final set and again in the tie-break but it was King who kept his cool.
