Unicorn young guns James Wade and Adrian Lewis produced two of the best performances of their careers to book their places in the quarter-finals of the International Darts League. But star man Phil Taylor is out of the tournament in Holland…..a dramatic defeat to Michael Van Gerwen, combined with Raymond Van Barneveld’s last leg victory over Darryl Fitton, sent Taylor home. Wade and Lewis displayed real class and talent under enormous pressure to reach the last eight. Both knew they had to win their last group matches in the 2nd phase and the pair rose to the challenge. Lewis saw off the challenge of top Australian star Simon Whitlock 7-4, while Wade won his winner-takes-all match against Scott Waites by the same score. Wade will now face the in-form Gary Anderson in the quarter-finals, while Lewis’ reward is a clash against Fitton. It was IDL agony for Taylor once again….he was below-par against the Dutch teenage sensation, who was playing for pride but Van Gerwen rose to the occasion – roared on by a partisan crowd.BY STUART PYKE
