It really was that good!

Hamilton was 4 sets to 1 down…..and looked down and out but then came the fightback and what a performance it was, as he ground Adams down and then delivered the knock out blow to the BDO World Champion – and Hamilton will now take on Gary Anderson for a place in the final of the World Darts Trophy.

Hamilton never gave up…..at 4-1 down, the match was still closer than the scoreline suggested….it was Adams brilliant finishing that made all the difference. Hamilton had admitted he had been struggling to find his top form over the last few months but in Utrecht, he was back to his very best – proving what a class act he is on the world darts stage.

This is the story of a brilliant match:

1st set: Went to the deciding leg…..Hamilton missed a dart to take it, then saw Adams take out 56 to win the set against the throw

2nd set: More missed doubles and more frustration for the Unicorn Maestro and Adams took the set 3 legs to nil, with a 121 check-out to take that two set advantage

3rd set: Hamilton was 2-1 up, only for Adams to find another 121 finish….and it looked like a ‘Hammer’ blow for the Stoke man when Adams pulled out a brilliant 158 to go three sets up

4th set: It was now must win for Andy….and win it he did. Adams was two legs up but Hamilton pegged it back to two apiece and in one leg, he hit six perfect darts….and finally, he nailed a big one – taking out a brilliant 129 to win the set….and he did it in style – treble 19 and two double 18s!

5th set: After Hamilton hit an 81 finish, he was on the end of a blistering Adams attack, as the BDO ace hit three consecutive ton plus finishes….156, 135 and 121….Adams 4 sets to 1 up and needing just one more for victory

6th set: The comeback begins! 130 check-out, followed by 120 for Hamilton…..but another unbelievable Adams finish, as he checked out 161 to bring it back to two legs apiece….Hamilton held his nerve, hitting his 10th 180 to take the set

7th set: Hamilton piles on the pressure and Adams starts to wilt, as ‘The Hammer’ wins another set in the deciding leg….a sweet double 18 and he now trails only 4-3

8th set: Nerves from both players and missed doubles! Hamilton breaks the Adams throw to go 2 legs to 1 in front and both have their chances, before the Unicorn star hits double nine and it is four sets apiece

9th set: You could feel the tension….magnificent stuff from Hamilton but Adams takes the first leg against the throw…..Hamilton responds and after both players miss doubles, he goes 2 legs to 1 up….in fact it was the first time he had been ahead in the entire quarter-final! Then ‘The Hammer’ nails ‘The Hammer’ blow with his 14th 180 – an unbelievable throw in the pressure cooker atmosphere and he finishes Adams off – checking out 46 to seal his amazing win.

Both players averaged around 94.5 and even seven ton plus finishes were not enough for Adams, who buckled under the pressure and momentum that Hamilton built.

And we’ll hopefully hear from the man himself on the next Unicorn update from the World Darts Trophy but Andy Hamilton deserves all the accolades.

Sadly, it wasn’t a good night for Peter Manley, who was never really in contention in his quarter-final against Gary Anderson.

The BDO No.1 won the first six legs of the match in just 10 minutes to go two sets in front. Manley finally got off the mark in the next and won the third set 3-2.

But Anderson was just too good and closed out the match with a comfortable victory. There is no doubt Manley will be hugely disappointed at the way he performed – winning only six legs in the entire match – especially after his display against Simon Whitlock in the 2nd Round…..as always though, expect the Unicorn star to come back strong!
