The Unicorn darting superstar is back to his very best in Utrecht and was clinical in beating Mervyn King by 6 sets to 2…..but Andy Hamilton just failed to make it an all-Unicorn final, losing a last set tie-break against Anderson in a dramatic semi-final.

Taylor looked really good against King and is just one more good show away from defending his World Darts Trophy crown.

As he has all week, Taylor put in a power show in the first set and against King, two 180s and a fantastic 144 finish set the tone!

King recovered well to level the match – taking the second set with the help of a 108 out shot but he just couldn’t live with Taylor on the day, as Unicorn’s 13 times World Champion raced into a 4 sets to 1 lead.

King took the next – producing a 136 kill but Taylor wasn’t hanging about! He took the 7th set in only 40 darts and closed out the match with double 16, to finish with an average of 102.8….King averaged 99 but he just couldn’t get close to Taylor.

It was another great performance and Anderson will have to be at his very best to deny Taylor yet another ‘Major’ TV title.

It looked like being ‘Hammer Time’ in Holland again, as Hamilton was 3-0, 4-1 and 5-3 in front against Anderson, only to be pegged back and lose in heartbreaking circumstances. He was so close to a first ‘Major’ TV Final but can be proud of his achievements over the last week in Holland.

Both players averaged around the 96 mark in a quite brilliant match, which featured 26 180s…..15 for Anderson and 11 from the Unicorn Maestro. Hamilton’s consolation is a cheque for 11,250 euros but he will be gutted that he just failed to cross the finishing line, despite producing another quality darts display.

The Stoke-on-Trent star raced into a three sets lead – edging a nervy opener, coming from 2 legs to 1 down to win the next, and hitting two 13-darters to take the third. Anderson finally got off the mark in the 4th set, only to see Hamilton race through the next to establish a 4-1 lead at the break.

Brilliant check-outs of 126 and 121 put Hamilton 2 legs to 1 up in the 6th set but Anderson came back to snatch it and the IDL Champion just missed double 12 for a 9 darter, which would have won him a top of the range Alfa Romeo! The next two sets were shared but Hamilton must have been feeling confident….5-3 up and needing just one more set for a place in the final.

Anderson though, had other ideas……he soon levelled the match with some clinical finishing, including a brilliant 164 – the highest of the tournament so far….and we were into that dramatic 11th set.

Both players produced some exhilarating darts….Anderson went two legs up and then missed two darts for the match. Hamilton responded with a terrific 122 finish on the bull and then made it two legs apiece….Anderson went 3-2 ahead, then ‘The Hammer’ brought the house down with another 122 out shot! But Anderson won the next two legs to take the tie-break 5-3 and take the match.

It is the third ‘Major’ TV semi-final that Hamilton has tasted defeat in a little over a year – the 2006 World Matchplay and the 2007 World Championship, when he lost to Taylor….now this but if Hamilton keeps producing the dazzling darts he has thrown all week in Holland, his time will surely come….and soon.
