What a final and what a performance from both players, with Anderson adding the World Darts Trophy title to his International Darts League victory and a gracious Taylor had no complaints.

“I thought Gary played brilliantly,” he said. “He hurt me with some great out shots at crucial times but it was still one of the most enjoyable finals that I’ve ever played in.”

Taylor added: “Overall though, I am very pleased with the way I played this week and I feel that I am getting back to something like my best.”

Both players maintained a remarkable standard throughout a gripping final….Anderson averaged 103 to Taylor’s 102….The Scotsman hit nine 180s and Taylor hit 17 maximums, which took his total for the week to 44 to set a new 180s record for the World Darts Trophy. Anderson’s check-out rate was 54.5 per cent, with Taylor still impressing at 48.7 per cent….. Anderson wins 45,000 euros and Taylor takes home 22,500 euros.

In the end, Taylor paid the price for a slow start….he had been quick out of the blocks all week but soon fell two sets down… BY STUART PYKE
