Following on from his victory over Raymond Van Barneveld at the South African Masters, Taylor won an all-Unicorn final – beating James Wade by 3 sets to nil.

Wade had played superbly all day at the City West Hotel but managed to win only one leg in the final. Taylor had earlier beaten the likes of Vincent van der Voort, Mark Dudbridge and Tony Eccles. His toughest match came in the semi-finals, when he was pushed all the way by Chris Mason, before squeezing through in a decider.

In the final, Wade missed four darts to take the opening leg and was punished by Taylor, who was terrific on his finishing. A 74 check-out gave him the first set….he took the second by 2 legs to 1 and a 104 kill set up the victory in the third.

Wade had won a high class semi-final against Team Unicorn stablemate Adrian Lewis but Lewis’ run to the last four could be crucial in the race for the 6th automatic qualifying place for the Premier League. His biggest challenger Andy Hamilton surprisingly lost his first game.BY STUART PYKE
