‘The Power’ was cut by youngster Adrian Gray, who held his nerve and threw some terrific tungsten to take out Taylor by 2 sets to nil……For the Team Unicorn star, it is another devastating defeat, as his barren spell continues.

It is now five ‘Major’ TV knock-out tournaments without a victory for Taylor, who is still clearly struggling to find his top form…..and it’s only the third defeat that he has suffered in the 10 years of the World Grand Prix…..and all three defeats have been in the first round – Kevin Painter in 2001, Andy Callaby in 2004 and now Adrian Gray in 2007.

There was no sign of the darting drama to come, when Taylor won the first two legs but Gray was playing well and the 26-year-old from Sussex was hitting his opening double 16 with monotonous regularity.

Gray won the next one - and his first 180 set up a 67 finish to take the first set into a deciding leg. Taylor missed the bull for a 126 on the bull and Gray coolly took out double 12…he had won three consecutive legs.BY STUART PYKE
