John Part produced a darting masterclass and Terry Jenkins dug deep, as the Unicorn pair won through to the last eight of the SkyBet World Grand Prix in Dublin. Part demolished Wayne Mardle to set up a quarter-final clash against youngster Adrian Gray. The Canadian averaged nearly 90 and will really fancy himself to win this event. He dropped only three legs against Mardle. Part hit three 180s in the first set, won the second with a 112 finish and despite missing seven darts to win the match, he finally hit double two to complete a convincing victory. He said: “I played well out there. I focused on trying to be the aggressor and it worked. Wayne is one of my bogey opponents but I felt relaxed up there and I am confident about the rest of the week.” Jenkins won the match of the tournament so far – beating Chris Mason in a thriller at the City West – to book a quarter-final showdown against Mark Dudbridge on Friday. It was a Grand Prix classic! “I am shattered!” Jenkins admitted afterwards. “I didn’t think I played that well but I guess I must have done ok. Chris pushed me all the way and winning the third set was crucial for me.” It was one set apiece and two legs all…..Mason was sat on 45 and favourite to take it against the throw. Jenkins needed 100 and it looked like he had blown it when he hit single five – but what a recovery….Jenkins nailed treble 19, double 19 and it really hurt Mason. Mason recovered to take the match into a deciding set but ‘The Bull’ wasn’t about to throw away his chance and he raced through to victory, winning three consecutive legs after his opponent missed darts to win the opening two legs. It was thrilling entertainment but Jenkins remains on course for his first PDC ‘Major’ in the top half of the draw, which is now wide open after Phil Taylor’s departure. Remember, Jenkins has appeared in four big TV Finals in the last 12 months and lost them all……will this be his week? In the other 2nd Round matches, Mark Dudbridge produced “the best leg of my life” to clinch an amazing victory over Andy Jenkins. It was two sets all and two legs apiece and Dudbridge looked like he’d blown it, when he took 10 darts to get away in the decider…..but then came some darting heroics as he took out 281 in six darts…..his first maximum of the match, followed by a stunning 101 check-out, after Jenkins had missed two darts for the match. The fairytale continues for young Adrian Gray…..after seeing off Phil Taylor, Gray beat ‘The Pie Man’ Andy Smith. He came from a set down to win 3-1 to reach the quarter-finals of a TV ‘Major’ for the first time!
