Former World Champion Bob Anderson pledged “there was more to come” and he proved it with his best tournament showing for more than two years – reaching the semi-finals of the Players Championship tournament in Ireland.

He eventually lost to the in-form Vincent van der Voort but the Unicorn star’s run to the semi-finals earned him a priceless £1,250 and will clinch his place in the elite top 32 to guarantee his place at the World Championship next month.

Anderson, who celebrates his 60th birthday on November 7, proved yet again that age is no barrier, throwing some great darts during the John McEvoy Gold Dart Classic at the National Exhibition Centre in Killarney.

Jelle Klaasen won the all-Dutch Final – coming from two sets down to deny Van der Voort. It is the first PDC title for the former Lakeside World Champion and this stunning victory also guarantees Klaasen’s place at the Alexandra Palace for the Ladbrokes.com World Championship, through the Players Championship Order of Merit.

The win also takes Klaasen into the world’s top 50.BY STUART PYKE
