Phil Taylor completed a magnificent double at the Players Championship in Holland – matching the feat he achieved in Lisse two years ago.

He beat arch-rival Raymond Van Barneveld in a nail-biter of a final. Barney had taken out Unicorn’s Andy Hamilton and Adrian Lewis in the quarter and semi finals.

There was also much relief for Unicorn’s Kevin Painter, who finally clinched the last qualifying place at the Grand Slam of Darts – but ‘The Artist’ still headed for home far from happy, after losing again to his main rival Alan Tabern.

It was again at the 4th Round stage….Painter came from two sets down and the match went to a deciding leg, where Tabern hit a superb 177 to leave double 12 for victory. In the end though, it didn’t matter, because Tabern had to reach the final to deny Painter his place at the GSOD and the St.Helens man lost to World Champion Van Barneveld in his next match.BY STUART PYKE
