It was an amazing all-Unicorn tungsten tussle and Jenkins appeared to be coasting to victory, despite losing the first set. He then won eight of the next nine legs to take him to the verge of victory and blew it……Jenkins missed seven darts to win the match and his game fell apart, as Shepherd won six consecutive legs to claim the upset win.

It was a remarkable turnaround.

Shepherd could hardly believe his luck and he will now take on fellow Unicorn star Mick McGowan in the 2nd Round on Boxing Day.

“It is what dreams are made of,” he said. “To beat the World No.4 is unbelievable and it is without doubt, the best day of my darts career. Terry missed so many doubles and at one stage I’d put my darts in my pocket. I thought it was all over.”
