He has suffered two surprise defeats in three Premier League matches but Unicorn’s 13 times World Champ is very relaxed about the situation. Phil Taylor has vowed to “get it right” no matter how long it takes. Armed with his new Unicorn Sigma darts, ‘The Power’ is now putting in hours of practice and he is certain that all the hard work will pay off. “The new darts feel really good,” he said. “I am very happy with the new shape and the feel of the new barrels and I know the results will follow.” “I still want to win every match I play and I’m working harder than ever. I have to, because all the other players are doing it and Phil Taylor isn’t going to get left behind – that’s for sure!” Taylor has already been beaten by fellow Team Unicorn stars James Wade and Terry Jenkins in this year’s Premier League, as he bids for a fourth consecutive title….and remember – Wade’s victory in Glasgow finally ended Taylor’s 44 match unbeaten run in the competition. Of course, Phil Taylor’s form and future is always a hot topic of discussion in the darts world. He hasn’t won a ‘Major’ PDC ranking tournament since the World Grand Prix in October 2006 and his quarter-final defeat at the Alexandra Palace was the first time he had failed to make a PDC World Championship Final. “I’m not bothered,” said Taylor. “They can say what they want but I know I am not far away.” He admitted he wasn’t at his best against Jenkins in Manchester but made no excuses. “That’s gone now and I look forward to the next one. It’s all about reaching those play-offs and getting in the top four and I am convinced I will achieve that.” In week four, the action switches to another new venue – The Ricoh Arena – home of Coventry City and Taylor faces another all Unicorn tussle against Peter Manley, who has never switched off ‘The Power’ on a TV stage. “To be honest, I am really enjoying playing with the new darts and I am also practicing sometimes with Adrian Lewis again,” he revealed. Taylor knows that 2008 will be a big year for him and he is under no illusion that it will be a testing time but he is certainly up for the challenge. Also in Coventry, Unicorn stars John Part and James Wade meet for the first time since their epic World Championship Quarter-Final….Part secured his first Premier League victory in Manchester with that comeback win over Wayne Mardle, while Wade is riding high – second in the table and still unbeaten. At the Alexandra Palace in December, their tussle went all the way to the final leg of the final set, with Part winning 4-2 in the tie-break. Wade said: “He is a fantastic player and of course, I owe him one after the World Championship! I am really enjoying the Premier League experience and I believe I am feeling fluent again in my throw.” Week 4 schedule at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry: John Part v James Wade Wayne Mardle v Adrian Lewis Peter Manley v Phil Taylor Terry Jenkins v Raymond Van Barneveld And as always, there will be first news of all the action, right here on the Unicorn website.
