Kevin Painter suffered disappointment after reaching the final of the West Tyrone Open at the weekend. Although the event no longer counts towards the Order of Merit, several PDC stars still made the trip to keep busy ahead of the Brentwood Players Championship and UK Open Regional weekend in Essex. Painter had a fine run but eventually lost by 7 legs to 4 against young star Kevin McDine in the final. ‘The Artist’ is very much back to his best and of course, his confidence is sky high after reaching the semi-finals of the World Championship. He also picked up £1,000 as consolation for losing the final…..it was a high quality affair, with McDine hitting seven 180s to Painter’s two…..but it certainly augurs well for the Unicorn star with a busy few months ahead. Results – Quarter-Finals (all played in legs format): Kevin McDine 5-3 Steve Beaton Chris Mason 5-4 Jonjo Dolan Kevin Painter 5-3 Campbell Jackson Malchy Mansell 5-4 Lionel Sams Semi-finals: Kevin McDine 6-3 Chris Mason Kevin Painter 6-1 Malchy Mansell Final: Kevin McDine 7-4 Kevin Painter BY STUART PYKE
