The Legends of Darts: John Lowe, Eric Bristow, Keith Deller and Cliff Lazarenko, joined with David Cameron leader of the Conservative party to switch on the Christmas lights in Witney, Oxfordshire. The Legends were invited by Witney Lady Mayor: Chrissie Curry, a keen Darts fan and in particular a fan of John Lowe to do the honours and light up the town, the arrangements were for the Legends to join the parade seated pillion on Harley Davidson motor cycles, for you enthusiasts: Hogs. Unfortunately this had to be cancelled, it was pouring with rain and the Legends were also doing a darts exhibition in Langdale Hall after the ceremony for the cancer charity. Thousands turned out even though the weather was dreadful to meet the Legends, John Lowe addressed the crowd for 15 minutes while the time counted down to 6.30, David Cameron the MP for Witney joined the Legends on the platform and paid tribute to what they had achieved over the years within the sport. At 6.30 precise, John and David hit the plunger and the whole town was ablaze with light. The Legends then played to a packed Langdale Hall, first playing the qualifiers who had played at the Three Pigeons in the qualifying stages, then a Legends knockout between themselves, the nights champion was Cliff Lazarenko, the Dirty Earth Band played the night out, and the Christmas season had begun in earnest. The organiser of the event was Colin Smith, and many of the businesses of Witney had given their support. In their end of night talk to the audience, it was unanimously agreed that Witney had welcomed the Legends as true giants of the sport, Eric Bristow summed it all up nicely when he announced this was just the beginning of a new chapter of the sport, the Legends have truly arrived and Witney will not be the last place they leave shinning.
