Unicorn’s Phil Taylor hit the first televised 9-Darter on Sky Sports in the quarter finals of the Stan James World Matchplay in Blackpool on Thursday 1st August. Apart from the prestige of this achievement, it also won him £100,000 from the sponsors. Phil went on to win the World Matchplay title for the 5th time to add to the 10 World Championship titles he already holds.
The 9-darter represents a double hat-trick for Unicorn. Firstly, this is only the third time in the history of televised darts that the 9-darter has been seen on television; the other two occasions were by John Lowe and Paul Lim, both Unicorn sponsored players.
The second hat-trick is that this is a Unicorn full house; a Unicorn player using Unicorn darts on a new Unicorn Eclipse board – and all live on Sky Sports.
