For several years now, pretty much since the day I learned he existed, I have been corresponding with the so-called “Doctor of Darts” – Patrick Chaplin. Despite a handful of failed attempts to get together, Patrick and I have not met, or even spoken. First of all, let me wish sincere Seasons Greetings to all you darting people out there. I hope you have a Cool Yule and Happy Hogmanay. There is not a shadow of doubt that Phil Taylor continues to push the profile of our sport ever higher. Being in the Top Ten nominees for the BBC Sportsman of the Year was great. If you are like me, when you first took up this great sport of darts, you were excited, full of energy, and ready to practice every day to get better. Then something happened along the way. Focus was lost. Practice gave way to other things. Is it a young mans sport? why do I ask? I ask the question that many people are asking me and I prefer to reverse it back onto you the general playing and spectating participants of the sport. Only a few years ago such a question would not have arisen, the average age of top class TV players was in the late 30's, i made a comment only a few months ago regarding the World Series of darts in america, the average age of the contestants was over 40.
