| John Gwynne and I have commentated on some belters for Sky Sports over the years, but we both agreed that in the top six ever must go the Wayne Mardle versus Colin Lloyd quarter-final. | There were some big shocks in the Desert Classic first round, with Mark Dudbridge, former winner Peter Manley and Ronnie Baxter all being hustled out of the competition. | Heading for Las Vegas to commentate on top darts just does my head in. Who’d have thought back in the first days of televised darts at the Indoor League at the Leeds Irish Centre in 1973 that we’d take the game this far? For Tetley’s bitter and jumbo sausage rolls read Pina Coladas and Po’Boy sarnies. We’ve gone from the world of bingo and Bernard Manning to the stomping ground of Elvis, Sinatra and Cher. | The Budweiser UK Open has left me and millions of other darts fanatics absolutely gobsmacked. I got to Bolton on Friday noon and then had to memorise 174 biographies for starters. Mind, when Steve Akers lists his house full of snakes and Andy Smith says his nickname is Pieman, some facts just stick in your head. And what can you say about Unicorn’s Phil Taylor?
